Wallingford Passive House, designed by Whitney Architecture and built by Hammer & Hand, brings the comfort and efficiency of passive building to an urban infill lot in Seattle’s Wallingford neighborhood.
This new 1700-SF home has an open layout, plentiful natural light, high ceilings, and a seamless indoor-outdoor connection. Its energy-saving features include triple-pane European windows, a CO2 heat pump, heat & energy recovery ventilation, radiant floor heat, and structural insulated panels.

This remodel and addition to a house in the Loyal Heights neighborhood of North Seattle includes innovative design features such as a rainwater cistern for irrigation, insulated concrete formed walls and floors (ICFs), and structural insulated panels for the roof and upper level walls (SIPs). The project necessitated a high level of design coordination and integration between the SIPs, ICFs, and the existing home’s wood frame construction.
See rainwater catchment in its various forms, plus other sustainable features, including an energy retrofit and remodel. Our house has one of the first legal whole-house rainwater catchment and filtration systems in the city of Seattle. A short walk brings you to many other rain gardens in the neighborhood.

Built-Green SF home in Lake City micro-community. Conceptualized and built by two groups of friends who took their co-owned single family home in a LR2 zone and redeveloped it into 4 single family stand alone urban infill homes. Architectural design by Matt Wasse of Shugart, Wasse, Wickwire.

Permaculture landscape, passive solar home design and pre-existing building re-use are on display.
