With the Carkeek Park Net Zero House we hope to show that a home built to Net Zero standards can be beautiful, truly "green" and affordable. We are passionate about building this house that can produce more energy than it consumes on an annual basis using renewable energy and we are excited to share our experience with you.
Following in the footsteps of the Ballard Zero Energy House and utilizing a similar design we're building Seattle's first Net Zero rental home.
A 10+KW solar array will provide all the energy the home uses over the course of a year and in addition, either charge an electric car or offset half the current energy use of the DADU/cottage.
All rain water is harvested via an in ground 550 gallon cistern that in winter will be pumped to a bioswale, installed by the City of Seattle, that helps to protect the Pipers Creek salmon run. In the spring, summer and fall the water will be used for irrigation. We are installing piping to allow toilets to be flushed with rain water in the future as well.
This home is still under construction and is expected to be completed summer of 2015.
We look forward to seeing you at the Tour.
